Chicago’s Pride Parade won’t march this year

CHICAGO — Chicago’s Pride Parade won’t march this year.

While city leaders didn’t mention the city’s annual Pride Parade by name among the long list of summer festivals canceled due to the coronavirus, organizers confirmed the event that draws nearly 1 million people won’t go on this year.

“We do this with total understanding and agreement that no other decision was possible,” according to a statement published by GoPride. “The health and safety of our participants and that watching must be the first priority. We agree with the City that organized events with large crowds will not be safe through the summer and we think possibly beyond that time as well.”

This is the first time the Pride Parade has been canceled in 50 years. The parade is set to return in 2021.
